Hours of Service Rules Commercial Truck Drivers
Truck driver fatigue is a leading cause of truck crashes, accounting for almost one-fifth of all truck accidents. To promote the safety of all motorists, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has placed restrictions on the number of hours truckers can drive without resting.
According to the FMCSA regulations:
- Truckers must not drive more than 11 hours after 10 hours of rest
- Truckers must take a 30-minute break after eight hours of continuous driving
- Truckers must take 34 hours off after driving 60/70 hours in 7 to 8 days
